How to Make an Impact

Title: How to Make An Impact
Author: Jon Moon
Year: 2007

My Rating:  5/5 Stars

Synopsis: Fantastic book that transformed the way I think about and approach business communication.  Provides some really clear principles and examples of how to create impactful written work that everyone can benefit from.

Jon's book is all about the power of communicating clearly to have impact.  In his words... 'Clear work gets results.  Your documents and analyses get read; they are more inviting for readers.  People understand and absorb your points faster. You'll help them to reach better decisions more quickly'.

After the introduction the book is broken down into ten chapters each of which cover a different area of communication such as graphs, tables, slides, numbers etc and in these Jon explains some of the common mistakes people make but then goes into detail and shows examples of great communication.

I read this book about 6 years ago and many of the principles, ideas and formats have stuck with me to this day.  Communication is often called out as one of my key strengths by managers and this book is without doubt the biggest contributor to that.

Some might find this to be a tough read or a dry subject, but I would encourage everyone that works in a business environment to give it a go as better communication will not only help you as an individual, it will be of huge benefit to everyone you communicate with by helping them digest the information faster and make better decisions.

A brilliant book that is as relevant today as when it was written and I look forward to Jon's next release tipped to be early 2016.
